UH engineer Fazle Hussain's recent acquisition of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Fluid Dynamics Award for 2002 establishes him as the world's most highly decorated scholar within the field of fluid dynamics. [Only two other scholars have ever claimed as many as two of the four widely coveted awards that Hussain has received for career achievement or most original contributions in the field.]

Biochemist Susan Hardin and four UH colleagues (including chemical engineering professors James Briggs and Richard Willson) are developing a new technology for direct molecular sensing that could be used to gather all the genetic information contained in a person's DNA in less than 24 hours. They have filed a patent on a new process to sequence the human genome.

UH Cullen College of Engineering alumnus Jimmie Schindewolf, P.E., led a group of 22 students from the UH American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter on a tour of the new Reliant Stadium Feb. 22.

A $51 million construction project at UH for a new Science, Engineering and Classroom building - which will provide a pedestrian "gateway" to the west side of campus - was approved at a specially called meeting of the UH System Board of Regents. The 200,000-square foot facility will consist of 11 classrooms, a 550-seat teaching theater, and science and engineering research labs.
