BP Gifts Nearly $30k in Support of College Programs, Students
(November 29, 2007) BP Foundation Inc. recently gifted $29,500 in support of UH Cullen College of Engineering programs, student organizations and event sponsorships. Engineering alums Gabriel Cuadra (2006 BSChE), business unit leader for the Latin America Retail division of BP Mexico, and Lizie Nguyen (2006 BSChE), subsea engineer for BP Exploration & Production, presented the check to Interim Dean Fritz Claydon and Vita Como, director of professional development, following a lunch with college program leaders and representatives from various engineering student organizations.

The Buzz at UH: Expert Safely Removes Bee Hive from Engineering Building
(November 14, 2007) Local bee expert Mike Knuckey worked to remove approximately 100,000 honey bees that have taken up residence between the walls of Engineering Building 1. To locate the hive, Knuckey took a series of temperature readings and then, brick by brick, removed the building facade, exposing the hive to a crowd of curious onlookers and regional media outlets. He proceeded to remove the hide in sections in an effort to preserve it. The hive will be relocated to another area on campus.

College Partners in $1.4M Grant to Benefit Regional Aerospace Education
(November 12, 2007) The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering is a key member of a group that has received a $1.4 million grant to undertake activities designed to provide cutting-edge continuing-education resources in aerospace engineering and train the regional aerospace workforce. Such resources include the development of aerospace engineering courses for online delivery, provision of graduate scholarships and improved strategies for program recruitment.
