Professor Dan Luss Honored by AIChE
(September 28, 2005) The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced that Professor Dan Luss is the recipient of the 2005 Founders Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Chemical Engineering. One of the highest honors given in the field, Luss is being recognized for his contributions to education, research, and professional organizations throughout his nearly forty-year career as a professor. While serving as chair of the ChE Department for over 20 years, Luss played a significant role in laying the foundation for one of the best chemical engineering programs in the country.

College 'WELCOMEs' New Program for Women
(September 16, 2005) The Women in Engineering Learning Community for Maximizing Excellence (WELCOME) is a new program at the Cullen College of Engineering designed to establish a support system for female undergraduate students, giving them the opportunity to meet fellow classmates, while interacting with women currently working in the field of engineering. Working female engineers are still being sought to participate in professional-student mentor program.

NSBE's 30th Annual Career Fair Draws Companies to UH
(September 9, 2005) The UH chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is hosting their 29th Annual Career Fair on Thursday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the University Center Houston Room.

Shell Campus Pit Stop Challenge Returns to UH
(September 8, 2005) The Shell Campus Pit Stop Challenge will be taking place on Tuesday, September 13, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., between the Cullen College of Engineering Y and L2D2 Buildings.

College Mourns Death of Writer Brian Allen
(September 6, 2005) Brian Allen, award-winning writer and editor for the UH Cullen College of Engineering, died last week at the age of 45. He joined UH in December 2001 as a writer/editor for engineering's Office of Communications, where he researched, wrote and edited 198 features and news stories for the college's online newsroom and wrote 53 stories that were used for media relations efforts to promote the college.

UH Opens Doors to Displaced Students, Engineering Enrolls Seventy
(September 8, 2005) The UH Cullen College of Engineering has already enrolled at least 70 students from the University of New Orleans, Tulane University and Xavier University as part of the UH System's response to the effects of Hurricane Katrina. UH is opening its doors to eligible students who were displaced from colleges and universities in the affected Gulf Coast area.

Orientation for new engineering students displaced by Katrina
Engineering students displaced by Katrina are invited to attend a special 1-hour session from 10-11am on Tuesday, Sept. 13 or Wednesday, Sept. 14 in E421 Engineering Bldg. 2 (Dean's Conference Room). This session is designed to acquaint them with the basic computing resources available at UH, including where to get help. Details (pdf file).
