ECC Opens 32 Station PC Lab Oct. 1 to ECC
(September 30, 2004) The Engineering Computation Center (ECC) is pleased to announce the opening of a new 32 station PC laboratory within the ECC complex effective Oct. 1. The computers in this laboratory can operate both in the Windows XP and LINUX environment as the user sees fit. The costs associated with this laboratory were funded in part with Undergraduate Equipment Access Fees and College of Engineering Technology Fees.

International Symposium in Houston Showcases Work in Engineering and Technology
(September 15, 2004) From healthcare to helicopters, UH engineers bring innovations in robotics to an international conference held in Houston this year. The 14th International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics aims to gather high-quality, original contributions in the robotics field, as well as assess the most recent developments in this very scientific and technological area. Held last year in Madrid, Spain, the symposium this year convenes at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Sept. 16-18.

UH Engineering Professor Kishore Mohanty To Give Sigma Xi Lecture Sept. 30
(September 3, 2004) Chemical Engineering Professor Kishore Mohanty will give the Sigma Xi lecture to the UH community Thurs., Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m. in the UH Athletics/Alumni Center Great Hall. He will talk about improved oil recovery meeting the near-term energy challenge.

Cullen College of Engineering Names New Associate Deans, Interim ECE Department Chair, Dean's Office Staff and Office Changes
(September 1, 2004) Engineering Dean Raymond Flumerfelt announces administrative changes to the UH Cullen College of Engineering: Frank J. "Fritz" Claydon as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Computer Facilities, Larry Witte as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Haluk Ogmen as Interim Chair for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, David Starnes as Director of Development, Julie Trenor as Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Adjunct Assistant Professor, and Chad Wilson as Director of Technical Communication Instruction.

UH Alumnus Flourishes in Engineering Practice, Navy, Air Force for Three Decades
(September 1, 2004) C. Rick Coneway (1973 BSCE, 1976 MSCE) always wanted to fly. After receiving his first bachelor’s degree, the native Houstonian joined the U.S. Navy and used that time to launch a now 31-year dual career in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and in engineering.
