Lienhard’s New Book Earns Him September Author of the Month
(August 18, 2003) John Lienhard, M.D. Anderson Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and History at UH, has just published his latest book that celebrates the inventive energy that made early 20th-century America modern. Just as “Inventing Modern: Growing up with X-Rays, Skyscrapers, and Tailfins” hits the newsstands, Lienhard was named September Author of the Month with a reception, discussion and book signing at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 6 at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Town and Country Village.

Chemical Engineering Grad Extends Family Tradition of Cougar Pride
(August 12, 2003) Lisa Bergeron comes from a family of UH alumni. Her father went to Law School at the university and all of her aunts and uncles on her dad’s side attended UH, as well. The graduate of Clear Brook high school just graduated from UH in May with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and just entered the University of California at Berkeley’s graduate program.

Radio Program Highlights O'Neill
(August 6, 2003) Michael W. O'Neill, UH Hugh Roy & Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering who died Saturday, was the focus of an Engines of Our Enginuity radio program. Produced by colleague John Lienhard, the episode aired Aug. 6. Professor O'Neill touched the lives of many friends, students, and colleagues. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

University Mourns Death of Distinguished Engineering Professor
(August 4, 2003) Michael W. O'Neill, UH Hugh Roy & Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering, died Saturday. Visitation services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, and memorial and funeral services will be held on Wednesday. Professor O'Neill touched the lives of many friends, students, and colleagues. Stories of how he impacted people's lives are being collected through Tuesday evening and will be shared at the funeral services. A memorial fund is also being established.

High School Teacher Receives Training in Water Filtration Technology
(August 4, 2003) While most of his peers take the summer off, high school teacher Steven Statt has been spending his summer at the UH Cullen College of Engineering, where he has been learning about drinking water filtration from one of the country’s leading experts, Environmental Engineering Professor Shankar Chellam.
