UH Electrical Engineering Professor Liang Shen Honored at Luncheon
(April 29, 2004) Liang C. Shen, professor of electrical engineering and director of the UH Well Logging Laboratory, was honored at a luncheon Tuesday by the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA), faculty, former graduate students and his colleagues in industry. He was also presented with a large-screen plasma television as a gift from his former students and colleagues.

Cullen College of Engineering Launches Redesigned Website
(April 29, 2004) The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering launched a redesign of the college website to give its audiences a better way to navigate through the site. The new site, designed by the college's Office of Communications, was designed by Harriet Yim.

Engineering Staff Participate in March of Dimes WalkAmerica
(April 26, 2004) UH Cullen College of Engineering staff formed a team to walk at the March of Dimes WalkAmerica April 25. Pictured are staff members Rebecca Leyva, Lupe Pesina and Shelia White at the President's Reception.

Engineering Professor & Graduate Student Receive UH Teaching Awards
(April 21, 2004) Charles Dalton, professor of mechanical engineering, received the Enron Teaching Excellence Award, and Chidiogo Madubike, who is currently working on her Ph.D. thesis in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.

UH Chemical Engineering Students Compete in Regional AIChE ChemE Car Competition
(April 15, 2004) The smell of burning rubber, the roar of the crowd and the insatiable desire to win are all a part of racecar driving. While there is no pit crew for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) ChemE Car Competition, the excitement is still there for chemical engineering majors Mansour AbdulBaki and Adrian Morales, the first UH students to ever enter the competition. AbdulBaki and Morales captured a second-place finish.

UH Sweeps IEEE Conference, Takes Home Seven Awards
(April 13, 2004) The UH Cullen College of Engineering’s student branch of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) received top billing at the recent IEEE Region Five Conference, garnering seven awards, including the honor of Best Large Student Branch.

Annual Tournament Raises Funds for Cullen College of Engineering
(April 12, 2004) Approximately 100 golfers helped raise money to support the UH Cullen College of Engineering at the 15th Annual Engineering Golf Tournament on April 5 at Hearthstone Country Club.

 

 

Engineering Student Showcases Work at UH Research Day
(April 7, 2004) Ning Ma, mechanical Ph.D. student who works in Prof. Gangbing Song's Smart Materials and Structures Lab, displays one of his research project at UH Research Day April 5.

 

 

 

Mohanty Receives Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award
(April 5, 2004) UH chemical engineering professor Kishore Mohanty has been selected as the 2004 recipient of the Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award for distinguished contributions to scientific knowledge and its applications. The award, given by the Houston chapter of the organization, includes a $2,000 prize and he will give the Sigma Xi lecture this fall.

Students Enjoy the Spring Weather
(April 3, 2004) Mechanical Engineering students Sam Garza, Lisa Posevina and Stefan Isdraila take advantange of the spring-like weather to study outdoors, between the two engineering buildings.
