Texas NSBE Students To 'Walk' For Education
(January 28, 2002) Players from the Houston Comets and local and state politicians will join students from six Texas universities in "A Walk For Education" Saturday, Feb. 2 in northeast Houston. The event is sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers collegiate chapters from UH, UH-Downtown, Texas A&M, Lamar University, Prairie View A&M University and Rice University.

Only Experienced Engineers May Apply
(January 28, 2002) How does a student get a job to get experience if the job requires experience? The UH Cullen College of Engineering has solved that problem with its Cooperative Education and Industrial Scholar Interns Program. These programs are designed to give students the hands-on experience necessary to obtain a great job after graduation.

Premiere of ‘Drainage Forum: The Allison Experience’ on Jan. 24 Links University With National Consortia
(January 22, 2002) UH external communications will expand this week with the broadcast premiere of the Cullen College of Engineering’s fall program "Drainage Forum: The Allison Experience" on The ResearchChannel (RC). Civil & Environmental Engineering Launch New Website
(January 18, 2002) The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering launched its redesigned website with the help of designers Alejandra Trivino and Harriet Yim in Engineering Communications.

PROMES Program Helps Engineering Students Sustain Success
(January 17, 2002) Since its modest start in 1974 with only eight students, the Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies (PROMES) has grown to include over 500 members. And according to members, PROMES is an encouraging and helpful influence in their lives.

UH Scientist/Engineering Professor Aids EPA on Environmental Test for Synthetic Drilling Fluids
(January 14, 2002) Dr. Debbie Roberts, UH associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, is working with the oil industry and the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure that synthetic-based fluids used to lubricate oil-drilling equipment are environmentally safe.

UH Professor Named to Texas Council on Environmental Technology
(January 14, 2002) Dr. Debbie Roberts, UH associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been named by Governor Rick Perry to a new group called the Texas Council on Environmental Technology to develop solutions to air, water and waste problems.

Engineering Professor Elected Officer of Faculty Senate
(January 10, 2002) Electrical engineering associate professor David Shattuck was elected as an At-Large Member of UH Faculty Senate. Shattuck joined UH in 1982 and has received numerous teaching excellence awards. His research work involves medical ultrasonic and oil field applications, and he teaches courses in electronics, circuit analysis, microprocessors and communication theory.

Cracking the Secrets of Oil
(January 7, 2002) Industry partnerships and grants equaling $1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy assist Kishore K. Mohanty, professor of chemical engineering and director of the Institute for Improved Oil Recovery, in cracking open the secrets of porous, oil-containing rocks.

UH Engineering's Global Outreach
(January 2, 2002) The UH Cullen College of Engineering is now offering master’s programs in Petroleum Engineering and Industrial Engineering in Mexico to Petrleos Mexicanos employees. This program is in partnership with the Universidad La Salle in Mexico City.
