Rockwell Distinguished Lecture Series Presents "Soft Materials and Soft Machines"
By

Zhigang Suo

The next installment of the Rockwell Distinguished Lecture Series will be held Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. in Engineering Building 1 room 102D. This lecture, “Soft Materials and Soft Machines” will feature Dr. Zhigang Suo, Allen E. and Marilyn M. Puckett Professor of Mechanics and Materials at Harvard University.

The talk presented by Suo will explore the comparison between soft and hard materials in machines. In the current engineering climate, machines are made from primarily hard materials. In nature, however, machines are mostly made from soft materials, as soft materials are more able to take on various forms for different functions.

The Rockwell Distinguished Lecture Series is named for Elizabeth Dennis Rockwell, a UH alumnae, industry expert and philanthropist who passed away in 2011.
