 UNDERGRADUATE MISSION STATEMENT 

Create an educational experience of interdisciplinary engineering and problem solving so that our students learn to be self-learning professionals who can compete in a global marketplace that is experiencing significant technology growth and sophistication.

 OBJECTIVES FOR THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM EDUCATION

Produce graduates with the abilities to secure, to maintain, and to change professional employment or to gain placement in post-graduate education, if and when desired.

Outcomes for the undergraduate program EDUCATION

Expect all graduates receiving the BSME degree to have:

  • an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics (through partial differential equations), science, and engineering;
  • an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;
  • an ability to design and system, component, or process to meet desired needs;
  • an ability to function on teams and multi-disciplinary teams;
  • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems;
  • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility;
  • an ability to communicate effectively;
  • the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context;
  • a recognition of the need for, and the ability to engage in, life-long learning;
  • a knowledge of contemporary issues, especially those related to mechanical engineering and its relationship with society;
  • an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools, necessary for engineering practice;
  • the ability to secure job placement or entrance into an academic program upon graduation, if so desired.
