Dr. Shieh is senior members of IEEE and AIAA, and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. He was the recipient of more than ten College Outstanding Teacher Awards, the 1973 and 1997 College Teaching Excellence Awards (W. T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Awards), the 1988 College Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award, and the 2003-2004 Fluor Daniel Faculty Excellence Award, the highest award given in the College, from the UH Cullen College of Engineering. In addition, he was the recipient of the 1976 University Teaching Excellence Award and the 2001-2002 El Paso Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Houston. Further, he received the Honor of Merit from Instituto Universitario Politecnico, Republic of Venezuela in 1978. His fields of interest are digital control, optimal control, self-tuning control and hybrid control of uncertain systems. He has directed 62 Master theses and 30 Ph.D. dissertations. He authored and co-authored more than two hundred and seventy peer reviewed journal papers. He co-authored a research monograph, An Algebraic Approach to Structural Analysis and Design of Multivariable Control Systems (Springer, New York) in 1988. |
