Thomas J. Hebert received a BS degree in electrical engineering from The University of Florida in 1984. From 1984 to 1988, he was a fellow of the American Electronic Association at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.Completing his research in the Signal and Image Processing Institute at USC, he received the MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering in 1985 and 1989 respectively. His dissertation contributed new statistic-based methods and algorithms for image restoration and reconstruction.

He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Houston as an Assistant Professor in 1989 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995.Dr. Hebert was Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston Texas from 1994 to 2000. He received the UH College Research Excellence Award in 1996. He has supervised 16 MS thesis and PhD dissertations, and is currently supervising two PhD dissertations and three MS theses. Dr. Hebert is author or coauthor of 28 journal publications, one book chapter, three NASA publicly archived technical reports, and numerous refereed proceedings articles.
