Betty J. Barr received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1967, 1969, and 1971, respectively. She joined the Cullen College of Engineering in 1971 as an Assistant Professor in Systems Engineering. In 1978 the Systems Program became part of the Electrical  Engineering Department. In 1982 Dr. Barr became Director of Undergraduate Studies in the department, a position she continues to enjoy.
 
Dr. Barr received the College of Engineering Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award in 1982 and again in 1990. In 1993 she received the University of Houston George Magner award for Academic Advising as well as the Outstanding Faculty Advisor award from the Engineering Student Organizations.

 
-• Research and Academics

Dr. Barr's focus is on the undergraduate program, in the areas of numerical anaylsis and applied mathematics. She is faculty advisor for the UH chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and for the Texas Epsilon Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
