Career Programs

The Engineering Career Center provides employers three ways to connect with students to meet recruiting needs. Industry partners can connect with students through Co-Operative Education, Internships or the Industrial Scholar Interns Program.

Co-Operative Education

Co-operative Education (Co-Op) is a program that enables college students to receive career training with pay as they work with professionals in their major fields of study. Work experience in government, business, industry, and human services enhances the students’ academic training. Students generally work 20 or more hours-per- week while enrolled in school, or 40 hours-per- week when working full-time alternating semesters. This valuable work experience is documented on their official college transcripts.

Internships

An Internship is a great way for students to gain “real-world” experience in a supervised environment applying academic preparation to a professional project. Through internships students are able to build confidence, network with team members, and determine organizations fit.

Industrial Scholar Interns Program

The Industrial Scholar Interns Program (ISIP) is an industry-sponsored program that attracts students with high leadership and academic qualities. The program helps students finance their education, provides important work experience, assists companies in meeting professional needs, and provides an expanded, diverse engineering workforce to the Houston area.

Industry Partners provide scholarship and internship awards to students. ISIP requires a four-year financial commitment from employers and a scholarship-internship commitment from students.
