Preparing Students for the Sophomore Engineering Curriculum

Engineering Redshirt Camp
Far too often, students who enter college aspiring to careers in engineering and who thrive during their freshman experience do not pass essential engineering courses, such as Circuits, Electromagnetics, Mechanics I (Statics), Mechanical Thermodynamics I, Chemical Processes, and Chemical Thermodynamics I. These intellectually rigorous courses, which are the foundation for further work in engineering, are difficult even for the well-prepared student.

Engineering Redshirt Camp is specifically designed to "redshirt" or "prepare" eligible students for the challenging sophomore engineering curriculum. It is a highly interactive and collaborative learning experience led by engineering faculty. Sessions include Problem-solving, Time Management, Review of Calculus, and Using the TI-89 calculator to solve complex equations.

Redshirt Camp will be offered from 9:00am-4:00pm on Tuesday, August 18. It will be repeated on Wednesday, August 19 for those unable to attend on Tuesday. Students who complete either day of Redshirt Camp will receive a CougarCard flex card in the amount of at least $100 (actual amount may be greater, based upon number of qualifying attendees) which will be valid throughout the academic year. Click here to register for the Redshirt Camp

Students who complete Redshirt Camp plus successfully complete one of the semester-long Collaborative Learning Workshops are eligible for up to $750 scholarship if they earn a grade of B- or better in the associated lecture course.

Example:

- Attend Redshirt Camp

= earn $100 cougar card
- Attend Chemical Process Workshop, and
- Earn a B- or better in CHEE2331
= earn up to $750 scholarship
