research
Biomedical Optics is a fast growing area of research in medicine. Optical methods for diagnostic and functional imaging, detection, and manipulation of cells and tissues encompass inputs from several fields including optical physics, biophysics, biochemistry, engineering, biology, medicine, mathematics, and computer science. At the University of Houston Biomedical Optics Laboratory , we are currently exploring the following areas of research:
Optical Coherence Tomography (click to follow link)
- Development of OCT-based diffusion biosensor
- Development of noninvasive methods to image and assess viability of embryos
- Imaging, detection, and monitoring of microbubbles in tissues and blood
- Development of methods for ultra-sensitive monitoring of eye’s lens optical properties
- Development of enhanced biometric system using OCT technique
Nanophotonics
- Imaging and biosensing of cells and proteins using tailored quantum dots
