Research Labs

Biomedical Optics Laboratory
The research activities in this laboratory concern the development of novel methods for protein biosensing (based on nanooptics) and tissue functional and structural imaging (based on Optical Coherence Tomography and Optoacoustic techniques).

Biomedical Engineering Research Core Laboratory
The mission of the BMERCL is to advance knowledge in biomedical engineering by promoting interdisciplinary research and training among engineers, biologists, chemists, and physicians. To this purpose we provide researchers with a single facility where they can access various tools to carry out their research in Molecular and Cell Biology, Imaging, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering.

Connective Tissue Physiology Laboratory
The overall goal of the Connective Tissue Physiology Laboratory (CTPL) is to combine molecular, cellular, biochemical and engineering principles with physiological science to understand the many mechanisms of extracellular matrix adaptation in connective tissues. The laboratory research thrusts are: novel growth factor delivery through gene therapy, tissue engineering, the development of novel low level laser modalities to improve tissue healing times and to better understand the impact of altered ground reaction forces and wound healing in bone, ligament and tendon after injuries and during space flight. The research derived from the CTPL strives to move the information gained from the bench and move it to the bedside for use in the Orthopaedic Sciences.
