EAA Supports WELCOME Program

(October 25, 2006) The Engineering Alumni Association supports the UH women-in-engineering program, WELCOME, with recent funding initiatives that total $1,600. EAA donated $600 to sponsor WELCOME’s Fall 2006 seminar series. A team of women engineer alumni (Kay Babineaux, Dorota Bernatek, Cynthia Oliver Coleman, Elizabeth DeStephens, Ashley Gong, Elizabeth Hendley, and Selma Kwok) obtained a $500 ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Program Team grant for volunteering in the EAA Engineers as Problem Solvers session at UH engineering camp for girls. EAA Treasurer Cynthia Oliver Coleman obtained a $500 ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement grant for volunteering in a variety of UH women-in-engineering activities.

Scholarship Recipients Honored at EAA Luncheon

(October 24, 2006) The Engineering Alumni Association honored its scholarship recipients at the 2006 Scholarship Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the UH Hilton. Chris Shooner, Biomedical Engineering Senior, received award as recipient of the $2,000 EAA Outstanding Engineering Student scholarship. Rhys Forgie, Chemical Engineering Sophomore, received award as recipient of the $2,000 EAA Future Engineer scholarship. Representatives from the Cullen College of Engineering, HAO, and EAA Board attended the luncheon. Read more about the recipients on the EAA website. Engineering Homecoming Nov. 4
(October 18, 2006) UH Cullen College of Engineering alumni, faculty, staff, students and their families are invited to the 2006 Engineering Alumni Association Homecoming tailgate on Saturday, Nov. 4. The pre-game tailgate begins at 11 a.m. at the EAA Pavilion located at the west side of Robertson Stadium in Pavilion Village. BBQ and beverages will be available for $15 adult, $8 students, $5 children and free for children under 6. Kickoff for the UH vs. University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes game is at 2:30 p.m.

Engineering Alumni Association Hosts Reception During National Engineers Week
(February 28, 2006) The Engineering Alumni Association hosted its annual reception in celebration of National Engineers Week on Feb. 21. Over 200 engineering alumni, faculty, staff, students and representatives from local companies gathered to recognize student leaders and participate in the evening’s activities. Engineering alumni Tony Catalano (1979, MSChE), Okechukwu Ofili (2004, BSME), and May Shek (2002, BSChE) provided special entertainment with a “Who wants to be an Engineer?” competition involving three undergraduate contestants. Biomedical engineering junior Holley Love, pictured right with Catalano and Shek, won the competition and received a $250 prize for answering every game show question correctly. Over $12,000 in awards were presented to students by local companies, engineering organizations and EAA.

UH Engineering Alums Honored During EWeek
(February 24, 2006) Three UH Cullen College of Engineering alumni were honored by various organizations as part of National Engineers Week activities. Industrial engineering alum Mario Duarte was named one of the "New Faces of Engineering" by the Engineers Week Foundation; chemical engineering alum Karin Kabin was honored as the Young Engineer of the Year by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, South Texas Section; and mechanical engineering alum Ryan Schmidt was recognized as Young Engineer of the Year by the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
