The UH Engineering Alumni Association hosted the 2007
Engineers Week Reception on the Tuesday (February 20) of National
Engineers Week to support future engineers (UH engineering students)
and celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world. A total
of $22,750 in awards was presented to 32 students and 3 student organizations
at the reception program that was attended by about 200 engineering
alumni, students, sponsors, faculty, and staff. The sponsors were
UH Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board, Williams Brothers Construction
Co., FMC Technologies, ExxonMobil Women Engineer UH Alumni,
Shell Oil Company, Fluor Corporation, Bayer, Grant Prideco, Kalsi
Engineering, Reliant Energy, UH Engineering Alumni Association,
and TCB/AECOM.
The “Show Me The Engineer” game show (spin-off

and students. The finale of the “Engineers Make a Difference” speech
contest was performed by FMC Technologies (sponsor), alumni, and
student organizations. The audience participated in the “EWeek
Fun & Prizes” game that was conducted by alumni and students.
Weeks prior to the reception, the UH Engineering Alumni
Association hosted a new contest for the student organization to
participate in and show how engineers make a difference in the community.
The preliminary contest for the “Engineers Make a Difference” speech
contest was held on February 13 at the UH Athletics/Alumni Center.
The following nine student organizations participated: IIE, Phi Sigma
Rho, ASCE, NSBE, EWB, SWE, SHPE, IEEE, and MAES. The top three organizations
