Philosophy:
Sometimes in the midst of grading over 170 homeworks, projects, quizzes, and examinations, the “grader” will make mistakes. Mistakes include not “seeing” all of a student’s solution, not recognizing an alternative solution, or simply not adding up the points earned on all questions correctly. The instructors in ECE 1331 will do everything in their power to rectify mistakes in grading; however, it is important to follow some simple procedures due to the fact there are over 170 students enrolled in ECE 1331 this semester.
Procedures:
1. After
your work is returned and after your lecture, go to a quiet place
and go over your work, comparing it to the posted solution. This
is how you learn not to make the same errors twice!
2. If you have found possible grading mistakes, use an 8.5x11 piece(s) of paper to clearly enunciate in writing the grading mistakes that you believe have been made and suggest a resolution to the mistake.
3. Return your work and clearly enunciated written remarks about possible grading mistakes to your instructor (not your TA or Proctor). (YOU HAVE SEVEN DAYS FROM THE DAY YOU RECEIVE YOUR GRADED WORK TO COMPLETE STEP 3)
4. DO NOT COMMUNICATE POSSIBLE MISTAKES ORALLY TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR!!!FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AS OUTLINED IN STEPS 2 AND 3 ABOVE.
5. After successfully following STEP 3, your instructor will pass your work and written remarks to the “grader”. The “grader” will take another look at the work in question and “re-grade” as necessary. Keep in mind that the “grader” may not agree with your suggested resolution(s).
6. The “grader” will return your work and remarks to your instructor with a written note of the outcome.
7. Your instructor will return the materials back to you within a week of your completion of Step 3.
8. If you are still not satisfied with the outcome, your instructor will arrange a meeting of you the student, your instructor, and the “grader”.
